What’s New in Azure: Insights from Our Experts

June 29, 2020 Cara Heimbaugh

There is a lot going on in the world right now, and the world of Microsoft is just as busy. Every day, new features are changing the way we work, collaborate, and stay secure, no matter where we are. From large new additions in the Azure product space, like Azure Sentinel, to new features for existing services, there is a lot to keep up with. It is our job as Microsoft experts to help you stay up-to-date and educated on ways you can make work easier and more comprehensive.

Check out our experts’ handpicked highlights from this quarter’s Azure activity:

The Down-low on Azure Sentinel
“Microsoft Azure Sentinel is a set of tools that uses Fusion Technology to allow centralized security visualization, correlation and analysis of your entire Enterprise by collecting data from multiple resources. It evaluates the current security state of all your connected data sources and uses intelligent security analytics and threat intelligence on your organization for alert detection, threat visibility, proactive hunting, and threat response by providing real-time analysis of security alerts generated by all connected users, devices, services, applications, and infrastructure. This is achieved in both on-premises and in multi-cloud platforms. It also consolidates and correlates alerts and responses to suspicious activities with real-time built-in orchestration and automation of common tasks. Sentinel is the next generation of Microsoft security services that uses Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to help sort out the noise and focus on relevant threats.” – Marcos Cajas, Assistant Team Lead, Advanced Operations

New Spring Update to WVD Management Experience
“Microsoft is significantly improving the WVD management experience by enabling WVD deployment entirely through the Azure Portal. Previously it had to be done through PowerShell. This allows admins to set up host pools, manage apps and desktops and assign users all from within the portal. The Spring Update will also add better Microsoft Teams support from WVD using A/V redirection for video calling which will improve the video and audio experience. Microsoft will also be adding location choice for service data for compliance and sovereignty purposes. Service metadata can be distributed across the U.S. and Europe, to start, with more regions coming soon.” – Peter De Their, Senior Consultant

Soft Delete for Log Analytics
“Log Analytics can collect data from both Azure and on-premises systems for up to 2 years with terabytes per day ingestion. Both retention changes and deletion of the Workspace are soft actions by default that become permanent after 30 days. Azure Backup is another resource type that supports Soft Delete by default. Protect your Azure resources from deletion using soft delete and optimize your DevOps testing with soft delete override.

.” – Jason Cotton, Service Design Lead
