Fixing the Broken Rung: New Signature Sponsors and Supports the International Women’s Day Conference in Toronto

March 5, 2020 Cara Heimbaugh

Did you know that it’s estimated that it will take 208 years to close the professional gap between men and women in the technological world? New Signature is acutely aware of the gender disparity in our world and are committed to fix the broken rung on the professional ladder for women to climb as high as they choose.

On Thursday, March 5, 2020, sixteen New Signature employees joined almost 500 others to celebrate the contribution of women to the world of technology and to discuss the power of women in the field, as well as the importance of striking a better balance in equality for all genders in a world that has a storied history of being a male-dominated arena.

The International Women’s Day Conference, in its second year, was created and hosted by the Women in Technology Network, a global community of professional women and men who encourage all women and girls to study STEM and pursue careers in the technology sector, enable more women to attain leadership positions and career advancement and support more female entrepreneurs to start and develop profitable businesses.

Highlights from the 2020 Conference

In a TED Talk-style forum, the conference hosted fifteen speakers and panels that dissected and discussed topics covering inclusion and the business case for equality, stories of women helping women, direction on how to engage employees in a diverse workplace, and one message from New Signature Chief Strategy Office, Paul Cosgrave, who dialed in on how gender equality makes the world a better place.

Making the World a Better Place

If you were to ask Paul what he does for a living, he wouldn’t tell you he’s a Chief Strategy Officer at a gold-level Microsoft partner. In fact, he may not even mention technology at all. He’ll tell you that he’s making the world a better place and taking care of his family.

Paul’s message focused on the importance of working to create a better future, no matter your role, and that if we can’t improve our society and make a positive impact as we do our daily jobs, we are not fully succeeding. He highlighted our New Signature GET IT employee resource group initiatives and spoke proudly of the women who take part in both his home life and work life. His goal, he says, as the executive sponsor of the group, is to make the world a better place through thoughtful and intentional gender equality practices.
