As we move toward a new year, Microsoft is gearing up for some changes and new features that will drive your business forward. Microsoft uses the Azure feedback tool, where you can leave feedback about Azure updates or features you’d like to see, to guide their developments. At New Signature, we aim to keep you up-to-date on all the newest and most useful features coming to your business and helping to keep your Azure environment optimized and poised for the future.
Here are some major changes coming in 2020:
-
- Azure Sphere will be generally available
Beginning in Feb. 2020, Azure Sphere will be ready to fulfill Microsoft’s promise of security to scale. Microsoft’s mission for Sphere is to empower every organization on the planet to connect and create secured and trustworthy IoT devices. To deliver on this, we’ve made several strategic investments and partnerships that make it possible to meet our customers wherever they are on their IoT journey. - Azure Arc
One of the most significant announcements coming from Ignite 2019 was the availability of Azure Arc, which is poised to be one of the biggest influences to Azure management in 2020. Azure Arc enables Azure services anywhere and extends Azure management to any infrastructure for unified management, governance and control across clouds, datacenters and edge. They look and feel just like Azure resources, and they provide unified auditing, compliance, and role-based access control across multiple environments and at scale.

- Azure Container Service Will Retire
Since Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) will replace Azure Container Service in terms of management and operation, Azure Container Service will be retired as a standalone service on January 31, 2020. This means that ACS APIs will be blocked, and you’ll no longer be able to create new clusters, or make changes to existing clusters. You can check out the recommended actions for you based on your ACS setup here.
